Disability Health for Health Care Providers

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services offers two online trainings and other miscellaneous information for healthcare providers who want to improve services to people with disabilities.  

National Disability and Public Health Resource Center for People with Disabilities (NDPHRCPD)

From the American Association on Health and Disability, the NDPHRCPD includes research abstracts, health disparity data, and links to information of interest to people with disabilities and the people who serve them. 

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

The CDC compiles information and resources to promote health and has developed a model for promoting inclusion and accessibility so that communities can reduce health disparities.  

Center on Health, Physical Activity, and Disability (NCHPAD)

Center on Health, Physical Activity, and Disability (NCHPAD) provides health information for people with disabilities, particularly about adaptive physical activity. Includes videos to exercise at home.

Cultivating Resilience Video Series

Cultivating Resilience Video Series (via Shepherd Center): This video series is aimed for people with spinal cord injury but it would be helpful to people adjusting to any type of disability. The videos feature people with disabilities describing how they cope with issues such as depression, loneliness, and anger.

Facts about the COVID-19 Vaccine

Facts about the COVID-19 Vaccine (via Autistic Advocacy). These videos provide basic information about the COVID-19 vaccine in plain language. Also available in Spanish at this site.

Health and Disability 101 Training for Health Department Employees

NACCHO, or the National Association of County and City Health Officials provides training and technical assistance to local health departments as they include people with disabilities. 

Rehabilitation and Choosing a Facility

Rehabilitation and Choosing a Facility (via Christopher Reeve Foundation) addresses frequently asked questions about choosing a rehab center and understanding the services that can be provided. It may be useful to anyone with a disability who may lose functioning after a hospital stay, injury, etc.

Improving Access to Health Care for People with Disabilities

Improving Access to Health Care for People with Disabilities (via Disability Rights and Education Defense Fund) helps CIL staff to develop capacity to help people with disabilities access health care and long-term services and supports (LTSS).

Nutrition, Food Preparation, and Safety

FoodKeeper App (via the FDA): Provides information on understanding proper food and beverage storage and shelf life to maximize the freshness and quality of food items.

Food Safety Basics (via USDA): Provides information on the safety of food handling, cooking, and storage in preventing foodborne illness.

Shelf-Stable Food Safety (via USDA): Provides information on “shelf stable” food safety.

Are You Storing Food Safely? (via the FDA): Provides information on food storage tips to prevent foodborne illnesses.
